An unprecedented three-year campaign to purchase and
protect over 75,000 acres of privately owned forests that link the Alpine
Lakes to Mount Rainier. This effort will protect most of the remaining
old-growth forests left on private land in this region. Much of this
old-growth is threatened with logging within the next one to three years.
These forests and corridor lands are critical habitat for gray wolf, grizzly
bear, pine marten, fisher, northern goshawk, great gray owl, northern spotted
owl, and many other species. |

DNR manages more than 5 million acres of state-owned lands
including forests, agricultural lands and submerged aquatic lands. Most of
these lands are committed to "trusts" to generate income for several
state institutions, primarily schools and the state's forest counties. DNR
also takes a lead in protecting sensitive species and geologic formations,
monitoring natural resource industries and providing forestry assistance to
private landowners and communities. |

Our purpose is to bring to the attention of all Americans
the scandalous destruction of their national forests; a damning indictment of
national forest management policies & practices nationwide. |
