A non-profit group dedicated to preserving the remaining
ancient forest ecosystems of Western Washington, especially those on public
lands. We believe that education is the key to preservation. Our focus is to
familiarize people with the unique plants that grow in the ancient forest
ecosystem and to teach the traditional beneficial uses of these plants. We
offer plant identification field trips out to a low elevation ancient forest
in the Western Washington Cascades and in-city classes on preparing your own
homemade herbal remedies using native plants, including oils, salves, and
medicinal tinctures. |

An unprecedented three-year campaign to purchase and
protect over 75,000 acres of privately owned forests that link the Alpine
Lakes to Mount Rainier. This effort will protect most of the remaining
old-growth forests left on private land in this region. Much of this
old-growth is threatened with logging within the next one to three years.
These forests and corridor lands are critical habitat for gray wolf, grizzly
bear, pine marten, fisher, northern goshawk, great gray owl, northern spotted
owl, and many other species. |

sustainable and harvestable populations. The Northwest office of American Rivers

recovery - because salmon are central to our region's economy and culture,

terrestrial organisms depend. |
